Cut list & parts

• Dish base × 1: 160 × 160 mm. Raise the outer edge gently.
• Frog body × 1: — × — mm. Keep the body hollow or small to aid even drying.
• Eyes × 2: 8 × 8 mm. Attach securely before drying.

Making steps

1. 1. Form the base

   Roll an even slab around 6 mm thick and cut a 16 cm circle. Smooth both surfaces with a lightly damp finger.

   An even base is less likely to warp.

2. 2. Raise the rim

   Lift the outer edge a little at a time, leaving enough flat space for trinkets.

   Support the rim evenly while it begins to firm.

3. 3. Sculpt the frog

   Make a small frog body and two eye shapes. Score and moisten the joining areas, then blend them onto the rim.

   Avoid a very thick solid body beside a thin dish.

4. 4. Dry thoroughly

   Dry at room temperature according to the clay maker’s guidance. Allow the underside to dry before painting.

   Do not force-dry with direct heat.

5. 5. Paint and finish

   Sand rough edges only after fully dry. Paint the base, details and highlights; apply compatible varnish if desired.

   A sealant does not make most air-dry clay waterproof.
